No matter what your circumstances, we all want to find Love and that doesn’t stop once you’ve had children! The pool of Single Parents is getting larger and larger but the search for Love as a Single Parent comes with its challenges that can be hard to navigate. Made My Date has compiled this blog to help you identify and overcome those challenges.
.) First, let’s talk about Self-Care. Before seeking a new relationship, it’s essential to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Make sure you have a support system in place, manage stress, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. When you are emotionally healthy, you are better prepared to start a new relationship.
.) When it comes to finding someone, be sure to take your time. Don’t rush into a new relationship. It’s crucial to take your time and allow a natural connection to develop. Rushing into things can be overwhelming for both you and your children.
.) Another big obstacle is actually knowing what you want from a partner. Be clear about what you’re looking for in a partner. Consider your values, lifestyle, and the qualities you want in a potential partner. Knowing what you want will help you make better choices. This in turn will save you a lot of time when it comes to dating!

.) Once you’re confident that you know what you want, it’s essential that you remain patient. Finding the right person may take time. It’s important to remain patient and not settle for someone who doesn’t meet your criteria or make you feel valued.
.) Be sure to meet the right type of person in the right types of places. To save yourself a lot of headaches, focus on meeting people in places that align with your personality and values. Joining social groups, online dating sites, or attending events are a great way to do this and increase your chances of meeting like-minded people who may be more compatible with you.
.) Once you’ve started connecting with people, make sure that you have good communication with them. Be open and honest with your potential partner about your status as a single parent, your responsibilities, and your expectations.
.) The best way to suss out if the person you’re talking to is worth your time is to check that you’re both compatible or not. Look for someone who understands and respects your role as a parent and is compatible with your family’s needs. Compatibility in lifestyle and parenting philosophies can make a relationship more successful.
.) If that’s all going smoothly but you still have your doubts, trust your gut instinct. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Trusting your intuition can help you avoid potential problems.

.) Sometimes you need more than your own gut instinct to go by, and when this happens the best thing to do is to seek support. It’s okay to get advice from your friends, family, or even a therapist. They can give you valuable insights from an outside perspective and emotional support throughout your dating journey.
.) Once you’ve got to a stage where things are going well, you’ve built trust with the person you’re dating, and you want to take things to the next stage; that’s when you might want to consider when to introduce them to your children. Make sure you introduce them to your child/children gradually and after a lot of thought. Ensure that your child/children are comfortable with the idea and that you’ve taken time to get to know the person well before introducing them to your family.
It’s important to remember that finding love as a single parent is more than possible! Many people have successful relationships while balancing parenthood. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You need to be patient, stay authentic, and prioritise the well-being of both yourself and your child/children as you navigate the world of dating.
